The State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development has today been recognized for its outstanding efforts in promoting gender equality and workplace inclusion during the 2025 Edition of the USAWA Awards, hosted by the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.
The awards ceremony, which also marked the official launch of NGEC’s Fourth Strategic Plan (2025–2029), was presided over by Ms. Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, and Children Services.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized that equality is a constitutional right, not a favor, and referenced Article 27 of the Constitution, which guarantees equal protection under the law. She described the National Gender and Equality Commission as a vital institution serving as a moral and legal compass on issues of equality and non-discrimination.
The CS further announced the completion of a National Men’s Engagement and Inclusion Strategy, affirming that men and boys are not just collaborators in the gender agenda, but also have unique needs that must be addressed.
The Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, was represented by Ms. Catherine Njoroge, Director Information, who received the award on behalf of the state department.
In recognition of its exemplary commitment and consistent excellence, the State Department was honoured for outstanding performance in promoting Gender and Social Inclusion in 2024.
Established by NGEC, the USAWA Awards celebrate institutions that have made significant contributions in mainstreaming gender and promoting non-discrimination, particularly among Special Interest Groups (SIGs) such as women, youth, Persons with disabilities (PWDs), children, older persons, and other marginalized communities.
The event brought together stakeholders from government, civil society, and development partners, reinforcing a shared commitment to gender equality and non-discrimination in all spheres of national life.
