In a landmark event aimed at deepening government presence and access at the grassroots level, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, officially launched the 59th Huduma Centre in Mogotio, Baringo County. The fully operational centre marked a significant milestone in the government’s mission to bring services closer to the people and transform underserved regions into development hubs.
Addressing residents who had attended to mark the historic event, CS Ruku noted that the Mogotio Huduma Centre is a result of a strategic partnership between Huduma Kenya and the Mogotio National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), under the leadership of area Member of Parliament Reuben Kiborek. He added that one-stop-shop for public services becomes the first in the country to be fully powered by solar energy, ensuring reliability and sustainability, especially in rural areas prone to electricity challenges.
“The Huduma Centre Mogotio is a testament to our promise to leave no one behind,” said CS Ruku. “Through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), we are bringing government services to the grassroots, where they are most needed.”
CS Ruku emphasized that the new facility will save residents the burden of traveling long distances to Nakuru, Kabarnet, or Kapsabet for essential services. “It will also house a digital hub to empower youth with access to government services, job opportunities, and skills development.”
The CS urged Kenyans to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program, which is already recording 50,000 daily registrations. Through the "lipa pole pole" model, the government aims to make health coverage affordable and accessible for all households.
CS Ruku further highlighted the broader government investments transforming Mogotio and surrounding areas, citing multiple development projects already underway:
• Ksh 50 million modern market to boost local trade
• Ksh 55 million sports academy to nurture youth talent
• Ksh 1.5 billion Affordable Housing Project to address housing needs and create employment
• Ksh 300 million investment in TVET hostels to improve access to technical education
• Ksh 3.5 billion in road infrastructure, with an additional Ksh 1.2 billion allocated in the current budget for further works
In agriculture and livestock, Baringo’s economic backbone, the CS noted the establishment of the Ksh 100 million Mogotio Livestock Institute to enhance research and marketability, a Ksh 70 million cereal storage facility in Sirwa to reduce post-harvest losses, and the Ksh 120 million Cheriac Irrigation Project to boost local food production.
The CS reiterated the government’s focus on education, noting that 76,000 teachers have already been employed, with a plan to hire an additional 24,000 before year-end.
Unity, Service, and Progress
In his address, CS Ruku also took a firm stance against divisive politics, warning against individuals sowing tribal discord. “Let no one think they are tribal kings,” he warned. “We will not allow people with selfish interests to mislead our people. Kenya must remain united in development and progress.”
He closed by reaffirming the government’s unwavering dedication to inclusive development, equitable service delivery, and youth empowerment. The transformation in Mogotio, he said, is not an isolated case but part of a national strategy to ensure no Kenyan is left behind.
Currently, Huduma Centres across Kenya serve over 60,000 citizens daily, offering 157 physical services and 22,000 services online. Huduma Kenya CEO Ben Kai Chilumo emphasized that 18 Huduma Centres now operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and that the government plans to scale up to 290 centres across all constituencies.
“Together with Mogotio NG-CDF, we are not just launching a building, we are unlocking opportunity and equity in service delivery to every Kenyan, regardless of location,” said Mr. Chilumo.
