CS Ruku Leads Push to Accelerate NYS Commercialization

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, convened a high-level meeting with the National Youth Service Council (NYSC) to assess and accelerate progress toward the commercialization of the National Youth Service (NYS).

The meeting, held alongside the Public Service and Human Capital Development Principal Secretary Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, brought together key NYS leadership including Council Chairperson Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Njuki Mwaniki and Commandant General Mr. James K. Tembur, MBS. It focused on strategies to expedite the transformation of NYS into a commercially viable institution that can enhance its capacity to train youth, generate revenue, and create employment.

CS Ruku reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the initiative, noting that a commercialized NYS will play a crucial role in building a self-reliant and economically productive youth workforce. “We are determined to reposition NYS as a major contributor to national development through innovation, enterprise, and sustainable job creation,” he stated.

The commercialization is intended to strengthen NYS’s self-reliance programs, increase training opportunities, and expand its participation in national development projects through income-generating ventures.

The council resolved to intensify efforts by forming strategic partnerships and streamlining operations to ensure effective implementation of the commercialization strategy.

The initiative aligns with the government's broader agenda to empower youth, reduce unemployment, and support inclusive economic growth.
