Cabinet Secretary acknowledges NYS as one of the key drivers of Government's Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda
Speaking during his inaugural visit to the NYS headquarters, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Hon. Justin B. Muturi outlined his vision for a revitalized National Youth Service (NYS) as a key driver of the Kenya Kwanza Government Manifesto and Vision 2030. He emphasized the need to harness youth innovation for national prosperity and to cultivate a skilled, committed generation.
The CS acknowledged challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, staffing shortages, and budget constraints but pledged to seek resources to support NYS's strategic role in national development. He highlighted the goal of making NYS self-sustaining through commercial activities to reduce reliance on government funding and create job opportunities for youth. He committed to implementing eight business plans developed with the University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services (UNES) to facilitate this transformation.
Hon J. B. Muturi acknowledged the President’s approval for hiring 200 cadet officers and 500 privates to alleviate staffing issues and emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships to enhance NYS's programs.the CS also commended NYS’s involvement in climate change initiatives, including a commitment to plant 50 million tree seedlings and restore the Nairobi Rivers Basin. He called for unity and collaboration to empower youth and contribute to Kenya’s development.
