Strengthening Public Servants’ Welfare Through Insurance Sensitization Workshop
Today, Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya presided over the opening ceremony of the GPA/WIBA Sensitization Workshop at Kenya School of Government. The forum brought together HR Directors, Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors from Ministries and Government Agencies, alongside representatives from Laser Insurance Brokers and Pioneers Assurance.
In her remarks, Dr. Imbunya reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare, dignity, and protection of public servants through enhanced employee support programmes. She noted that public servants remain central to effective service delivery and national development, underscoring the importance of providing adequate protection as they carry out their duties.
The Principal Secretary highlighted the operationalization of the Civil Servants Insurance Scheme covering Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA), Group Personal Accident (GPA), and Last Expense benefits, which took effect on 10th March 2026. The scheme is designed to provide financial protection and support to officers and their families in cases of injury, disability, accidents, or bereavement.
Dr. Imbunya emphasized the critical role of Human Resource officers in sensitizing civil servants on the scope of the cover, claims procedures, and benefits available under the scheme. She encouraged participants to actively engage during the workshop and cascade the information across their respective institutions.
The workshop also marked the beginning of a nationwide sensitization exercise that will be rolled out across all counties to ensure that all civil servants are adequately informed about the programme.
The State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development remains committed to strengthening employee welfare, enhancing workplace protection, and promoting responsive human capital management across the Public Service.
