Strengthening Kenya-Korea Ties in Capacity Building and Development

A delegation from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), led by Country Director Mr. Wankyu Park, paid a courtesy call on the Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, at her Harambee House office this morning.

The meeting focused on enhancing the ongoing partnership between Kenya and Korea in the area of capacity building for public service. Discussions underscored collaborative initiatives across critical sectors, including Agriculture, ICT, Finance, and Governance—all closely aligned with the priorities of the current administration.

Dr. Imbunya commended KOICA’s continued support, noting that the agency has helped build the capacity of over 300 public officers in the past three years.

“You are a key enabler of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), especially through your support in Agriculture, ICT, and Governance,” remarked Dr. Imbunya.

She further revealed that an additional 55 officers will benefit from short courses scholarship in Korea, with the first cohort of 15 having already completed the training.

The Principal Secretary also praised KOICA’s inclusive development model, highlighting its work in reaching remote communities and improving lives through initiatives such as water provision projects that benefit women and children.

“Such grassroots-level impact has positioned KOICA as a vital partner in Kenya’s development journey,” she added.

In response, Mr. Park reaffirmed KOICA’s commitment to empowering individuals from partner countries by offering higher education and professional training opportunities in South Korea. Both parties expressed a strong commitment to deepening collaboration for sustainable and long-term impact.

Also in attendance was Mr. Stephen Kakulu Wambua, Acting Secretary for Human Resource Development, among other senior officials
