STATE DEPARTMENT FOR PUBLIC SERVICE LEADS TREE PLANTING EXERCISE AHEAD OF MAZINGIRA DAY
The State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development today led a successful tree planting exercise at the Public Service Club, where 2,000 trees of different species were planted as part of ongoing efforts to promote environmental conservation.
The activity, officiated by Secretary Management Consoltancy Services Ms. Peris Bosire on behalf of the Principal Secretary, Dr. Jane Imbunya, is a build-up to Mazingira Day, which will be commemorated nationally on 10th October in Trans Nzoia County.
This initiative stress the government’s commitment to sustainable environmental management and climate action.
Speaking during the event, Ms. Bosire emphasized that tree planting goes beyond symbolism—it is a practical and deliberate intervention to restore degraded ecosystems, conserve biodiversity, and mitigate the effects of climate change.
She noted that the planted trees will be nurtured and maintained to maturity to ensure long-term benefits, including improved air quality, water conservation, and soil stability.
The exercise is part of the Presidential Directive on the 15 Billion Tree Growing Programme, which seeks to increase Kenya’s tree and forest cover to over 30% by 2032.
Ms. Bosire reaffirmed the State Department’s commitment to championing this national agenda by mobilizing public servants and communities to take part in tree growing and environmental protection efforts across the country.
