PS. Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, today accompanied H.E. President William Ruto and Western Kenya leaders in Kakamega County as the Government outlined major development investments aimed at accelerating inclusive growth.
The State has committed over KSh21 billion to transformative projects across the county including KSh14 billion for affordable housing, KSh2.5 billion for modern produce markets, and KSh2 billion for student hostels in institutions of higher learning. Additionally, a KSh1.5 billion gold refinery is being established in Ikolomani to ensure local value-addition and shared prosperity from mineral resources.
The President also highlighted major infrastructure upgrades designed to boost mobility, ease of doing business, and regional positioning. Key interventions include commissioning 230km of new roads, allocating KSh2.6 billion to connect 34,000 households to electricity, and upgrading the Kakamega Airport runway from 900m to 1.2km to accommodate larger aircraft.
Further flagship investments include completion of Bukhungu Stadium (KSh1.4 billion) and the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital (KSh1 billion), which will serve as anchor projects for sports and healthcare excellence in the region.
At the grassroots leadership engagement held at State Lodge Kakamega, the President reaffirmed that these projects are designed to uplift livelihoods, expand opportunities and ensure equitable development across all counties. Later, at Shiveye in Ikolomani Constituency, the Government launched the KSh1.5 billion, 33km Shamakokho–Kaimosi–Mpaka–Mululu–Museno–Malinya Road, expected to enhance inter-county connectivity between Vihiga and Kakamega, boost trade, and widen market access. The PS underscored that Government remains committed to advancing development that directly benefits ordinary citizens and drives Kenya’s long-term economic transformation.
