PS Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya Presents FY 2026/2027 NYS Budget Estimates Before Parliamentary Committee
Today, the Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. J Jane Kere Imbunya, accompanied by the Commandant General of the National Youth Service (NYS), James K. Tembur, MBS, and members of the NYS finance team, appeared before the Departmental Committee on Social Protection at Bunge Tower, Parliament Buildings, to present the FY 2026/2027 Budget Estimates for the National Youth Service.
The session, chaired by Hon. Alice Wambua Ng’ang’a, provided an opportunity to deliberate on the Service’s budget priorities, progress in programme and project implementation, and the alignment of the proposed budget estimates with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
A key issue highlighted during the engagement was the need for enhanced funding to support youth recruitment under the National Youth Service. Dr. Imbunya noted that while NYS plans to recruit 16,000 youths in the current financial year, the existing budget allocation can only support 10,000 recruits, underscoring the need for additional resources to bridge the gap.
The discussions also underscored NYS’s strategic role in advancing youth empowerment, skills development, national service, and socio-economic transformation, in line with the Government’s broader development agenda.
The engagement reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening the National Youth Service as a critical institution for empowering young people, building national capacity, and creating pathways for meaningful socio-economic participation.
