Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, opened the Workplace Protection Conference at the Kenya School of Government.
- She emphasized that safe and dignified workplaces are essential for human development, productivity, and social justice.
- She commended the President’s announcement of Kenya’s intention to ratify ILO Convention 190, which addresses workplace violence and harassment across all sectors.
- Dr. Imbunya highlighted the negative impacts of workplace violence—including absenteeism, low morale, staff turnover, and “quiet quitting”—and stressed the need for effective reporting mechanisms to overcome stigma and fear.
- She framed workplace protection as not just a labour issue but a matter of governance, leadership, and human capital development, urging leaders to foster respect, accountability, and psychological safety.
- The conference was described as a platform for policy dialogue, awareness creation, and sharing best practices, with oversight institutions, civil society, and development partners playing key roles.
- She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to building a people-centered public service anchored on integrity, inclusivity, and dignity, and officially declared the conference open.
